JASHANDEEP SINGH- WEEK 8 ( FISHING WEEK )

Hello everyone! Hope you are well! This week was pretty busier than other weeks. We did fishing stuff which I found it interesting. Monday was the day, when we went to collect our traps. The site was Gardener and the traps were set beforehand by our supervisor. There were in total 16 traps. The weather was super hot but we enjoyed a lot by taking the measurements of fishes. This time we collected more than 200 fishes in each traps. Apart from fishes, we also had eel and crabs. The fishes were varied in numbers and species. Mummichag and sheepshead were the common species that we found over that site. I was doing the work of taking the measurement of fishes. The day was pretty longer and we spent half our day at that site. After we did our data work , we went to Timber point to set out 8 traps. Letsmove to Tuesday, where we did fishing stuff and recorded the data at Timber point and set out traps for West Sayville. Surprisingly! The number of fishes were pretty high at each sites as compared to week 4 fishing. The sheepshead species are usually small in size as compared to mummichag. Sadly, most of the fishes were dead. That time I was doing the work of taking out each traps and giving my fellow interns the fishes to take out the measurement. There were some fishes that were alive and when we put them on the tray, they were jumping so high. I still remembered the time when I was putting the traps on the tray, one of the fishes jumped so high and landed on my head. Thursday, was the day when we did some lab work. Whatever me and my fellow interns identified ticks species , we have to put them on the record excel data sheet. Also, our one of the interns was having her last day working and it was so nice of her that she brought us the donuts to eat. The party did not end here, one of our supervisor brought us the pizza. We all were very happy and thanks to our supervisor who really cares and makes us feel comfortable everytime. We all sat together and enjoyed the pizza party. On Friday, we went to set traps at new site - cupsague . The site was pretty beautiful and on the top of this, the weather was so awesome.I really like this site. After setting up the traps , we went back to the office and then had our last seminar meeting where Patti Casey - an environmental surveillance program manager discussed about her life journey and how someone could achieve success in life through entamologist. Her speech was really motivating. This way we ended with our week 8 . Thank you guys for reading my week 8 blog and hope to catch up on the next week blog.
